Episode Transcript
Why does success feel so far away even though I'm working harder than ever?
There's a question I want to answer, one I've asked myself plenty of times, and I'm sure you've asked yourself the same question: why does success feel so far away even though I'm working harder than ever?
You've set your goals, turned them into routines, read the books, done the courses, paid for coaching, all this other stuff, and you're working every single day. It's not like you're not being consistent, it's not like you're not applying what you're learning — you're doing everything that logically makes sense. Yet it's been three, six, nine months, probably longer, and you still feel stuck.
You still feel like you're just spinning your wheels, not making any major progress. Sure, you're making small progress here and there with whatever goal you're going for, but either it's not consistent, or it feels like you're putting way too much work in for the results you're getting, and you don't know why.
I've been there
I've been there — having the perfect routine, waking up at 5am, having a nice bath, working out, doing this, doing that — and twelve months goes by and I'm like, what's changed? Like really, what's changed?
It was difficult for me to see this because I was so absorbed in the idea that this is the perfect routine, this is what everyone says you should be doing to become successful, this is what all the millionaires are doing to get where they've gotten. But there comes a point — maybe after you've burnt out for the tenth time, or you just feel like you're in limbo and nothing's working — that you have to ask yourself: is this really the right way? Is there really nothing I'm missing?
By the end of this episode
By the end of this episode I want to explain exactly why, even though you're doing everything right, nothing is working — not at least in the way you want it to. And by the end you'll have some clarity on what to do next that does not involve just more of the same thing. It's not going to involve me just saying "keep going, you'll do it in the end" — I'm not going to say that.
So if you do want to become your best self, if you want this version of yourself that is just incredible and you're proud of, but you just don't know how to get there and nothing you're trying is working, then you're going to want to listen to this.
We're taught if you don't work hard, you won't succeed
It all comes down to the fact we're taught if you don't work hard you won't succeed. It's a base belief and it makes sense — whenever someone wants to achieve a goal, our default is: I have to put in the time, I have to work as hard as I can, I have to learn everything about it, I have to apply every single day, and then I'll get there.
Even me saying that, it makes sense. But you know from experience that's not how it works, otherwise you'd be there. There are a few things wrong with this approach, and I'm going to get into one of them, because I want to make sure this episode is practical and actually gives you steps you can use right now to get unstuck.
